Learn about the ATP-CTP requirement and how My Flight Time prepares you for the final step to an airline career at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
The Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program (ATP-CTP) is an FAA-required course that all pilots must complete before taking the ATP written exam. Introduced in 2014, the ATP-CTP is designed to prepare pilots for the transition from general aviation to airline operations.
The course covers high-altitude aerodynamics, swept wing aerodynamics, crew resource management, and advanced aircraft systems — topics specific to the transport category aircraft you will fly at an airline. It includes both classroom instruction and full-motion simulator time.
The ATP-CTP is typically the last training step before beginning airline new-hire training. Most regional airlines require you to have your ATP written exam completed (which requires ATP-CTP) before attending an interview.
To take the ATP-CTP course, you must have at least 1,500 total flight hours (or qualify for a restricted ATP at 1,000 or 1,250 hours with specific military or academic backgrounds). You must also hold a Commercial Pilot License with an Instrument Rating.
My Flight Time's Airline Pilot Program builds you to the 1,500-hour requirement. Once you reach your hour minimums, you are ready for the ATP-CTP course and airline applications.
While My Flight Time does not currently conduct the ATP-CTP course in-house, our Airline Pilot Program and time building programs are designed to build the hours, skills, and experience you need before taking the course. We partner with ATP-CTP providers and can recommend options once you are ready.
Our graduates have successfully completed ATP-CTP courses and been hired by regional and major airlines. The solid foundation built through our training programs — including multi-engine time, instrument proficiency, and high-volume cross-country experience — ensures you are well-prepared for the transition to airline operations.

The ATP-CTP (Airline Transport Pilot Certification Training Program) is an FAA-required course covering high-altitude aerodynamics, swept wing aerodynamics, CRM, and advanced systems. You must complete it before taking the ATP written exam.
ATP-CTP courses typically cost $4,500 to $6,000 depending on the provider. Prices vary based on location and whether the course is bundled with airline partnership programs.
Most pilots take the ATP-CTP course when they are within 100 to 200 hours of reaching the 1,500-hour minimum, as the ATP written exam must be completed before most airline interviews.
We do not currently conduct the ATP-CTP course in-house, but we partner with providers and can guide you to the right course when you are ready. Our focus is building you to the 1,500-hour mark through our training and time building programs.
