Master instrument flight rules at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Our structured IFR program builds real-world confidence in any weather condition.
South Florida offers a unique combination of VFR training days and real-world IMC encounters that makes it one of the best places in the country to earn your Instrument Rating. At My Flight Time, our students train at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE), flying through the busy South Florida airspace that includes Class B, C, and D environments.
Our IFR training program is designed to produce pilots who are not just checkride-ready, but genuinely confident and competent in actual instrument conditions. We emphasize decision-making, workload management, and precise flying — skills that separate safe instrument pilots from those who simply passed a test.
With our company-owned fleet and in-house maintenance team available 24/7, aircraft availability is never an issue. You fly when you are ready, not when the school can find you an airplane.
Our 40-hour Instrument Rating program includes 30 hours of dual flight instruction in IFR conditions. You will fly instrument approaches at multiple airports throughout South Florida, practice holding patterns, intercepts, and emergency procedures under the hood and in actual IMC.
The program includes 10 hours of simulator training with an instructor. Simulator sessions allow you to practice complex procedures, unusual attitudes, and partial panel scenarios in a controlled environment before applying them in the aircraft.
You will also complete 20 hours of ground instruction covering IFR regulations, approach plate interpretation, weather briefings, departure and arrival procedures, and ATC communication protocols.
Total cost: $11,800 — includes all flight time, simulator, ground instruction, and exam fees. The national average for instrument rating training exceeds $14,000.
Training is conducted in our Cessna 172s and Piper Archer/Warrior aircraft, all equipped with modern avionics suitable for IFR training. Our training center at KFXE provides access to full ILS, GPS, and VOR approaches within minutes of takeoff.
Located at 1811 NW 51st Street, Hangar 42D, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309, our facility operates 7 days a week from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
